 DINNER TIME FUN!
- “Dinner and a Show”
Once a week someone in the family has to be the night’s entertainment. He or she can sing a song, read a poem, tell a joke, play an instrument or even make the dog do tricks.
- “Vincent Van Vegetable”
Get everyone at the table to help to create a food portrait using food from his or her plate. How about spaghetti hair, green bean noses, tomato cheeks, or grape eyes? Take a photo of the finished masterpiece and add it to your family portrait gallery on your fridge.
- “Bistro Night”
Set up a chalkboard to list tonight’s “dinner specials.” Have one of the kids be a waiter or waitress and take each family member’s dinner order, as well as serve. Tips optional.
- “Weekly Celebrations”
Celebrate the accomplishments of your family each week. At the dinner table have everyone share an achievement, a goal reached or an obstacle overcome from the previous week. Kudos to you.
- “Silly Voice Night”
Do you like to talk like a baby? A duck? A cow? Have a family dinner where everyone speaks in his or her favorite silly voice throughout the whole meal.
- “Family Sports Night”
Choose a fun family activity that everyone can enjoy – and do it once a week. Join a family bowling league, visit a skating rink, or play mini golf or ping-pong.
- “Say the Word”
Each night a family member teaches the others a new word – by giving the spelling, the definition, and using it in a sentence.
- “Dress Like Your Favorite Vegetable”
Come to the table dressed in the color of your favorite vegetable. Pay homage to broccoli by dressing in green. Wear purple like an eggplant. Sport all yellow for corn or squash. See if everyone can guess what vegetable you’re portraying by what colors you’re wearing.
- “Be a Doodle Bug”
Set the table with thick brown paper and a basket of markers or crayons – and see what everyone can create.
